Copyright is always something that not many people know about, unless you experience a program/course like this. We've ALL done it. Burned a CD/DVD? downloaded music/movies? At one point in our lives we ALL have done it... perhaps unknowingly, but we've done it. GirlTalk? I LOVE his stuff. It's different...but then again it's the same. I understand people need copyright to protect their stuff and give credit where credit is due, but some stuff personally I think gets a little too complicated. I mean, I've made some instructional videos that I was pretty proud of. If someone used them and claimed them as their own, sure I'd be mad. But as long as they say "Hey, this was made by Kelly Grapentine," I'd be ok. But that's just me. Can't we all just "share share that's fair"? Never! Whenever I think about copyright I always think of Vanilla Ice, and how he used Queen's and David Bowie's "Under Pressure" beat. I remember an interview on VH1 or MTV where Vanilla Ice tries to explain "no no, it's different. Their song was bum bum bum bada bum bum, while MY song was bum bum bada bum bum..." You get the picture. It sounded ridiculous. But then after seeing this video I got it. You can stretch a beat out so that it sounds completely different, and yet it's the same, and the people who altered the original can get sued. It's mind boggling. If it sounds that much different, why bother fighting? That's why I'm glad we have things like Creative Commons, which I discovered in a previous class. While Creative Commons does not have EVERYTHING a person might want, it has many things that are usable. I mostly enjoy it for the pictures. But it's an option for people like me who don't want to be yelled at for borrowing things for various uses!

What a difference a year makes

Wow. I kind of like forgetting about my blogs, and then discovering them later. It makes me reflect about the time I didn't post anything. One year ago I was just starting my first full time job. It was crazy! In only a year, I have had crazy whirlwind events that would only come from a Lifetime movie, I've started my second year of teaching, and I've become a cheerleading coach. I'm almost done with my master's, which took longer than I would have liked, but due to the circumstances of life, I took some time off. I'm not quite there yet where I have time to myself, but what second year teacher does? I'm looking forward to finishing up at Full Sail- I'm making every attempt to really stick this out since there's a possibility this could lead to a really cool job at my school!

I GOT A JOB!!!


Yes indeed I am employed by the state of New Jersey. I received a call Thursday asking me if I was available for a phone interview on Friday. In between my classes that I taught for my summer job, I did the interview- it went pretty well. That night I received a call from the principal of the school asking me a couple of other questions, but then she said "Okay well I'll have HR call you, welcome aboard!" Right after that I got a call from HR asking me to come in Monday (today) to sign my contract. SO! fast forward to today. My alarm did NOT go off this morning so I woke up late, therefore I got to Newark late, and I spent ALL day there doing paperwork stuff. School starts Thursday, which is VERY hectic, but I'm very excited! Tomorrow I'm going back to check out my actual school since I'm not sure what I'm teaching or what grade- I know it's high school social studies and I don't really care what I teach but I'm just curious! :D

BP12_Garage Band

For my last practical experience, I'm choosing to learn about Garage Band. Since I am NOT musically inclined, I figured this would be a good thing to know. Especially since my Action Research project is all about the multiple intelligences! Perhaps I could use Garage Band to make a lesson about music and history, although the only lesson that comes to mind is students making a song about history (which would be really cool since like I said I'm not musically inclined!). If anyone has any other ideas let me know...I'll have to do some research for more lessons related to music and history, although I love teaching the 1920s to the present because the music is awesome. I also think it's good to get ahead of the game since I'll be using Garage Band in a couple of months for class. SO! Here goes nothing. I'm going to check out lynda.com (which is FABULOUS by the way) and the tutorials through Apple and try and learn more about it!
